Bio

ASSOCIATIONS:
Bob Riha, Jr. is past-President of the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles (PPAGLA) from 2010-2011 and is a five-term board member.  In 1992, he co-authored the PPAGLA Media Access & Information Committees ‘Media Guidebook’ and in 1994, he was appointed co-chair of the National Press Photographers Association’s Government/Media Relations Committee from 1994-2002 and in 1995, co-authored the ‘National Media Guide for Emergency and Disaster Incidents’, a resource guide for journalists and public safety representatives for use at emergency incidents nationwide.

From 1993-1995, he served as President of the California Press Photographer’s Association.  In 1994, he completed his second 2-year term as Media Representative for the California Governors Office of Emergency Services, Region I, Local Emergency Planning Committee. During his tenure, he co-wrote ‘Annex G: Media & Public Information Functions for Hazardous Materials’, an emergency planning document for 1st responders and journalists Statewide. Once a member of Screen Actors Guild/AFTRA.

HONORS:
Recipient of Certificates of Commendation and Appreciation from the County of Los Angeles, Peace Officers Assn. of Los Angeles County and California Office of Emergency Services for media relations guidance and presentations to public safety officials.

Recipient of Morris Berman Citation by National Press Photographers Association -1996 Press Photographers Assn. of Greater Los Angeles:  Fire Award – 1982; 1st Place Spot News 1983.

2019 International Labor Media Communications Contest-for California Federation of Teachers- 1st Place: Best News Story; Best Series and Best Photo Essay.

EDUCATION:
1991 graduate from California State University Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Newspaper Journalism; Associated Arts degree Long Beach City College (1979). Graduate – ‘Playtypus’ video workshop Ventura 2008. He is married with two children.
